What is mental health and wellness education/counseling?

Mental health and wellness are important parts of living a healthy and sustainable life, and yet many people have not been educated on how to protect their mental wellbeing or how to recognize signs of a mental health crisis in themselves or others. Mental health and wellness education and counseling focuses on arming people with the knowledge necessary to help them achieve and protect their optimal mental wellbeing. This education includes recognizing threats and warning signs of poor mental health, protective mental health factors, empathy development, a basic breakdown of common mental illnesses/symptoms, and skills to develop self-efficacy and advocacy for the self and others.
