Our aim is to provide BIPOC mental health support in a safe and comfortable way and to offer guidance, treatment, and emotional support directly tailored to our patients’ experiences. Despite the fact that mental health and wellness are incredibly important for an overall healthy life, many schools don’t offer any type of health and wellness education. The health and wellness education classes from Urban Health Group focus on teaching our students the many facets of health and wellness to help them protect and maintain their wellbeing. We emphasize curriculum points like mental health basics, emotion recognition and communication, mental health treatment options, common mental health issues, reducing mental health stigma, how to recognize when you or a peer is struggling, how to seek mental health help, and the warning signs of significant mental health distress. These are all crucial for protecting mental and physical health, and early education on these points can help ensure health and wellness for years to come.
Healthcare planning is an integrative approach that takes into account the services of multiple doctors. This approach allows the patient and their doctors to outline a course of action and the objectives and goals of the patient seeking treatment. This method helps ensure that all care providers are on the same page and are able to best assist with the ultimate goal of treatment, whatever that may be. These plans are also very effective for the patient because they help reframe the focus of treatment and provide milestones and benchmarks with which to measure treatment progress. Typically, these plans are subject to change as treatment goes on, as they are solely focused on providing the most effective care possible. If a healthcare plan is right for you, we will help you outline your problems and goals and come up with a clearly communicated plan of action to help you achieve those goals.
End-of-life planning is important for everyone, and we understand how challenging these conversations and decisions can be. With our help, you will design and fulfill an end-of-life plan to help protect your loved ones from undue stress and trauma at the time of your passing. End-of-life planning is multi-faceted and person-specific, but most often involves writing a will, naming an executor, making an asset inventory, writing a living will, and more. While many people seeking end-of-life planning and counseling tend to be those facing terminal diagnoses, end-of-life planning is beneficial for everyone, and there are no prerequisites for seeking this service. If you are facing a terminal diagnosis, however, we also offer end-of-life counseling to help you and your loved ones cope with the reality you are facing and prepare emotionally and practically for your end.
We serve the greater East Bay area including Castro Valley, San Leandro, Oakland, Alameda, and Hayward, CA, and are passionate about improving the mental health and wellness of our community. This month Twitter REW Events partnered with Leticia to speak to our Twitter Parents on allyship and coping as Black parents and she was absolutely phenomenal. She connected deeply to each participant and was able to identify a lot of problem areas parents are dealing with in this environment. Leticia was a great resource for us!
Leticia came highly recommended by one of our Women Healthcare Executives (WHCE) board member. We were searching for a qualified moderator to lead a program providing emotional and mental health support for our community during the pandemic. Leticia is organized, professional, and sharp. We had one meeting discussing the vision of the program and Leticia delivered. She uniquely created a session where our attendees were able to have a safe space to process their thoughts and feelings. I was impressed with Leticia’s ability to connect with each attendee over the Zoom platform. Our attendees shared glowing reviews after the session with comments about feeling empowered and refreshed. I would highly recommend Leticia to any organization seeking a facilitator for providing mental health support for their members or employees! Would love to work with her again in the future!
Leticia is a fantastic speaker and experienced facilitator of workshops and events. From small group conversations to webinars with hundreds of participants on sensitive topics such as racial trauma, she is able to pose insightful questions, encourage discussion, and foster a sense of community in participants, regardless of the size of the audience. Leticia’s been a fantastic partner to Modern Health and we’re thankful that she’s a part of our provider network
As someone who has struggled to make space to connect with myself and practice self-care, I can say that I’m not usually comfortable engaging in the parties in a public setting – that is until Leticia’s session at the ACCUC’s 2020 Commitment to Change conference.
Leticia is exceptionally gifted at leading a group, not only with her subject authority and expertise but her communication skillset. Per her advice, I’m putting together my “fab 5” and building in new ways to practice self-care, so that I can show up more fully for the people in my life. I would 100% recommend hiring Leticia to help you or your team develop mental and emotional well-being strategies.
Women Health Care Executives of Northern California(WHCE) was hosting an event to help our members manage the stress brought on by COVID-19 and strategies to remain empowered. During our planning process, the news of George Floyd took center stage and much like the rest of the world, our members felt the impact. At the last minute, we presented Leticia with a request to discuss the stress brought on by systemic racism and without hesitation she was able to answer the call, and exceeded our expectations. From start to finish, Leticia was timely, communicative and flexible. Her expertise in this field is without question and her ability to convey empathy, kindness and accountability was everything we needed! We look forward to working with her again.
In response to the trauma caused by the extrajudicial killings of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd (also punctuated by the attempted weaponization of the police towards Christian Cooper), Electronic Arts and the Black Employee Resource Group at EA, BEAT!, partnered with our mental health provider, Modern Health, to secure Leticia to provide group therapy sessions and materials in support of the mental health of Black employees at EA and aid us as we processed these multiple tragedies. Leticia guided us through our emotional responses, allowed us space to voice our fears and anger, and provided us with tools to de-stress and release the pain we are all experiencing. We are all thankful for the words of encouragement and moments of space she provided. I personally would welcome her to come back as a follow-up and recommend her to other groups and individuals at other companies that would need similar support.
A few weeks ago my agency contracted with Leticia to facilitated a wellness workshop for our staff. She did a masterful job of providing a perfect balance of skills and information within the space to allow questions and comments to connect with the group. All participants commented favorably on her skills to facilitate and provide mental health support on the Zoom platform. Amazing job, we recommend her for any organization desiring to provide their workers with workplace mental health support during this Pandemic or any time.
Leticia speaks from a place of authority and expertise but also feels warm and relatable, like a friend. She is incredibly organized, presents compelling visuals and goes above and beyond with everything shes asked for.
In light of COVID and the social climate at the time, we brought Leticia in to support Visa employees with workshops and support circles. All I can say is she far exceeded expectations. Employees had such rave reviews about her sessions that they discussed them for weeks. We were beyond impressed with her content, demeanor and versatility in supporting all of our diverse employees. I can’t recommend her highly enough.
Okta had invited Leticia to facilitate 2 safe space sessions at Okta following a series of racial injustice incidents in May/June 2020. It was a quick turn around and the focus of the session was to guide allies in supporting our Black employees through these challenges times. Leticia was prompt in her responses and took time to learn about Okta’s culture. We received great feedback from employees on how the session supported them in thinking about their role as an ally. Leticia had a thoughtful approach and provided a space for open conversations among participants. Her approach was to empower the participants so that they can self reflect and invest time in their own education. I’d highly recommend Leticia as a facilitator for support on mental health issues and safe space conversations.
As a mental health expert, a licensed social worker, and an innovative entrepreneur, Leticia is a consumate professional, an emphathetic service provider, and a wonderful person to collaborate, innovate, and work with.
While Ms. Vaca has a passion and calling to facilitate the wellness of others, especially the wellness of diverse and underserved communities, I personally admire her efforts to 1) de-stigmatize mental health services, 2) facilitate access of her services to underserved communities via various mediums such as hotlines, virtual sessions, group sessions, and in-person sessions, and 3) execute with a level of professionalism, empahty, and excellence.
It is evident to me that Ms. Vaca understands her calling, embraces the challenges of her calling, and loves what she does. Whether partnering with Ms. Vaca or utilizing her services, I am confident you would be impressed with the person and the professional.
Had the absolute pleasure to work with Leticia as she was a featured speaker for the Visa Black Employees Network & LatinX ERGs by presenting an excellent workshop on mental health awareness with practical tools & solutions for us to self-care effectively in our lives especially in light of COVID-19. She is a dynamic speaker & presenter and is excellent with engaging audiences in Virtual Formats.
It was wonderful experience to have a session of Workshop / Training / Presentation. I am extremely satisfied and I plan to go for it again.
Leticia is very professional and resourceful. My experience was positive and I grew tremendously from her knowledge and guidance.
Planning and preparation become essential components to smooth sailing as we journey through life. As psychotherapists, we have the privilege of accompanying our clients through various stages of life. We’ve recognized the often overlooked importance of planning in one area: end of life. This topic may feel discomforting or daunting to many, but it’s crucial to address. Below is a breakdown of end-of-life planning steps to bring peace and assurance to both the ones facing the end of life and your loved ones.
Death is a natural part of life, and accepting this reality can help approach the planning process with a sense of calm and openness. Start by having open conversations with your loved ones and healthcare professionals about your wishes and concerns. This can create a supportive environment fostering understanding and respect for one’s end-of-life decisions.
This part of the planning process involves making decisions regarding the medical care and treatment you would like to receive if you can’t communicate your preferences. It consists in creating a living will and designating a trusted person as your healthcare proxy— stating your medical preferences. These preferences include life-sustaining treatments you may or may not want to receive in case of a medical emergency. The healthcare proxy, or durable power of attorney for healthcare, is the person you appoint to make medical decisions on your behalf if you cannot do so in these situations— an important step in pre-planning matters related to health decisions.
In addition to medical decisions, addressing legal and financial matters at the end of life planning is essential. This includes creating or updating important documents, such as a will, trust, and power of attorney for finances. These documents will ensure your assets and possessions are managed and distributed according to your wishes. Working with legal and financial professionals can help to navigate these processes more efficiently and ensure all matters are handled appropriately— without the potential interpersonal family issues you leave behind.
Preparing for funeral and memorial services can provide a sense of closure and comfort for you and your loved ones. This planning process may involve choosing between burial and cremation, selecting a funeral home, and specifying the desired funeral or memorial service details. Even though this process is difficult to think about, you can alleviate the stress of these arrangements from your loved ones during a time of grief by taking proactive steps.
End-of-life planning isn’t just about legal and logistical arrangements; it also includes addressing the emotional and psychological needs of ourselves and our loved ones. You can access this support through various avenues, such as support groups, individual therapy, hospice care, and spiritual guidance. These resources aid in fostering a sense of comfort and reassurance amidst the uncertainty and emotional intensity often accompanying end-of-life experiences.
At Urban Health Group, we recognize end-of-life planning is a cherished priority for many families. Our experienced professionals strive to provide compassionate services to help you navigate the complex decisions of this final stage of life. We take the time to listen, understand your goals and objectives, and tailor our guidance to your specific situation. If you live in Alameda, CA, let us assist you during this challenging process with respect and understanding.LEARN MORE >
Corporate health and wellness programs are becoming increasingly popular as more and more companies recognize the benefits of investing in the well-being of their employees. These programs can take many forms, from on-site fitness facilities and group fitness classes to mental health resources and preventative care initiatives. By offering these resources and encouraging employees to adopt healthy lifestyles, companies can help to reduce healthcare costs, improve productivity and performance, and create a positive and supportive work environment.
This blog post will take a closer look at corporate health and wellness programs and the benefits they can provide for both companies and employees.
One of the main benefits of corporate health and wellness programs is that they can help improve employees’ physical health. Regular exercise and physical activity can reduce the risk of chronic conditions such as obesity, heart disease, and diabetes and can also help to improve mental health and overall well-being. By providing employees with access to fitness resources and encouraging them to adopt healthy lifestyles, companies can help to reduce healthcare costs and improve the productivity and performance of their workforce.
In addition to physical health, corporate health and wellness programs can also help improve employees’ mental and emotional well-being. Stress, anxiety, and depression are common issues that can affect anyone and negatively impact both personal and professional life. By offering access to mental health resources, such as therapy and counseling, companies can help support their employees’ emotional well-being and create a more positive and productive work environment.
Another benefit of corporate health and wellness programs is that they can help to create a sense of community and support within the workplace. By offering wellness workshops and events, companies can allow employees to learn new skills, connect, and feel a sense of belonging. This can be especially important for employees who may be feeling isolated or stressed and can help to foster a positive and supportive culture within the company.
Corporate health and wellness programs can also have financial benefits for companies. By investing in the well-being of their employees, companies can help reduce healthcare costs and absenteeism and improve retention rates by creating a positive and supportive work environment. This can help to save money in the long run, as hiring and training new employees can be costly and time-consuming.
Overall, corporate health and wellness programs are an important investment for companies looking to create a happy, healthy, and productive workforce. By supporting their employees’ physical, mental, and emotional well-being, they can improve employee satisfaction, reduce healthcare costs, and create a positive and supportive work culture. These programs provide a comprehensive approach to employee wellness, from on-site fitness facilities and mental health resources to preventative care and work-life balance initiatives. They ultimately lead to a more successful and sustainable business. Companies that prioritize the health and well-being of their employees are likely to see a range of benefits, including increased productivity, improved retention rates, and a more positive work environment.
